I woke up with a start. My eyes flew open and I was sweating. The room I was in was excessively white. It seemed familiar. Some pieces of furniture looked like they
had a white veil over them.
Hospital furniture.
I furrowed my brows as my hand went to my stomach. I glanced at my arms, they had white needles sticking out of them, but that wasn't the strange part. There was a yellow luciform outline.
Something was so off but so familiar. I pulled the covers back and pulled myself out of bed, the white hospital dress split. I stared as the gown wavered and then fell back in bed, attached to my body.
I gasped as I backed up. I was still lying in bed, well, another me. An unconscious me.
Wait, I've been here before. Right?
"Selene?" I asked out loud. I looked around but I didn't see anything.
...Was I actually dead? Was this the afterlife?...
I felt light-headed as I cradled my belly. No. I didn't want this. Not now.
I couldn't help as my knees buckled and I sank to the floor. It was so cold. A sob left my lips as I slid my hands up the gown for direct contact.
"No..." I cried. Through my teary eyes, I looked back up at my body on the hospital bed. "You stupid fucking slut!" I yelled at my corpse. I was livid.
I pulled myself up and stalked towards the bed.
"Could you be anymore weak?" I screamed, I didn't care about my tone, I had a bone to pick. My corpse just laid there, eyes closed, still. I don't know what I was on to think she'd respond. But I'm glad she couldn't, I had so much I needed to let out.
"What is your fucking problem? Huh?" My eyes stung and one hand left my stomach to clench into a fist. "You were fucking pregnant! Did that mean anything to you?"
Silence. I was fueled by it.
"You could've done something with your life! You went through how much? And- and now that there is something worth living for, you fucking leave!" My throat constricted the way it did before I cried. "The hell is wrong with you?" I sobbed as my legs wobbled.
I closed my eyes for a second to calm myself- I was far from being done. "You got fucking branded! You put up with that? You got raped countless times! I fucking forgot how many! And that wasn't enough? You had to wait until I had something I loved?” I screamed.
I felt like a toddler, throwing a tantrum because I was denied a piece of candy.
Well, I wanted a toddler! I wanted my baby! I selfishly wanted me and Benlyam to have kids and grow up with them.
...But I don't get that...
Why don't I get a happy ending? I did everything! I helped people time after time of getting hurt! I didn't do anything wrong...
"Why?" I asked, utterly broken inside. "If I was able to still be around Benlyam after everything, why couldn't you push on?" I sobbed and closed my eyes. "I just wanted..." I didn't finish.
I slumped over on the bed, but my body went through hers. I wailed harder. My hand fisted the sheet. My body shook with sobs as I rubbed my bump. What could've
been...
My knees were so weak, I ended up sliding down the side of the bed, bringing the sheets with me. I wanted nothing more than to sit in Benlyams arms, they were so
protective, so warm, so strong.
...No, he cut me and fucked me...
That made me cry harder. My whole body hurt. "I fucking hate you!" I mumbled in the sheets.
Sob after sob left my lips. I poured out my heart on these sheets. If anything- I would've been fine if I died, even if I gave birth. I'd give it to Benlyam and pass because I
knew he would adore it. Something in me told me, despite all the stuff I went through with him. He would love our baby. I knew he would.
But now he would never even get the chance...
I hate myself!
I hate myself!
...I fucking hate myself!...
I choked on my tears as a hand touched my shoulder. I quickly lifted my head and turned around in utter fright. I thought I was dead? Do I have to be bothered in the
afterlife?
My eyes landed on a woman. A Goddess to be correct.
"Selene?" I whispered and she frowned.
"My sweet child," she whispered as she neared my crumpled being. "Come here," she said gently. She kneeled down and reached out to me, I let myself be pulled into
her embrace.
I was going to be selfish. I was going to enjoy this. I needed this. I deserved this. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me into her while I sobbed like a baby. She rubbed my back as I hiccuped, trying to console myself.
I was never close with my mother from what I could remember, I liked my dad more.
I always wanted my mom to be with me and hold me whenever I felt bad. But she left me, and Selene felt like a mother figure, I was going to take this moment for granted and wallow in myself. No one else was going to hold me.
...There was no one else...
"Shh Violet," she whispered in my hair. "You're okay, dear one. I promise." I sniffled and rested against her chest. One hand around my stomach and the other wiping my
cheeks. I felt her stiffen for a second.
"Well that's forlorn," a rich, dark, regal voice spoke out. I flinched and quickly looked up, I subconsciously sunk into Selene. He sounded familiar.
I looked up to see a tall man with a dark silk button-up and dark pants. He even had a dazzling black crown that shimmered and glowed such a sinister aura. He looked
familiar.
"Why are you here?" Selene asked. She seemed slightly irked at his presence. I glanced up at Selene. She had a small crease between her perfect eyebrows.
"It's fitting," he shrugged and snapped his fingers, a chair appearing.
"No, it's not," she snarled. "She's not dead."
My heart leaped.
...I'm not dead?...
Did my baby still have a chance? A wave of hope washed over me.
The familiar man scoffed, "Way to ruin the surprise," he shook his head.
"It wasn't a surprise!" Selene fired back. It seemed she didn't like the man. "She's shaken! Stop being inconsiderate!"
"Sweetie, that's what I do!" he reminded her. It seemed he didn't like Selene either.
Selene scoffed and turned her attention back to me. "Are you okay Violet?" she sincerely asked me. "Come, let's go sit." She pulled herself up on her knees, helping me
up.
"Would you look at that, a Goddess on her knees! One of my favorite sights!" he chuckled and I tensed. "I'm just jesting of course- no offense Selene. But truly ironic, it's usually the other way around..." he mused, cocking his head with a teasing, million-dollar smile.
Selene rolled her eyes as she held me up and walked over to the seat. "Pluto- stop! You're being unnecessary. In fact, your presence is superfluous." Selene patted my head gently as she pulled back to make sure I was okay.
The man, or Pluto, looked at her bewildered. "Pluto?" he scoffed, "Why are you speaking of my Roma-"
Selene quickly cut him off, "Did Mercury let you in? He knew you weren't supposed to be in here!" she accused.
"Mercury? Pray tell the reason for the Roman appellations?" he raised one of his eyebrows like it was completely ridiculous. She's said Mercury before...
"If you have a problem with it, you're more than welcomed to leave!" Selene snapped back. "You're ruining what I have to do."
He widened his eyes, cunningly amused, and raised his hand in mock surrender. She sighed and turned back to me. She went to talk but I had one concern prodding my mind.
"Is my baby okay?" I asked, my voice so quiet and filled with apprehension.
...Please...
She gave a sad smile. I frowned. "Yes child, it's okay."
I breathed out of relief and rubbed my stomach, the man cocked his head at the action, a small smile forming on his lips. "Am I back in the um," I thought for a second, the term slipping my mind, "inbetween?"
I saw the man scrunch his brows but he stayed silent.
"Not exactly. You're not in a coma and you didn't buffer in between the two dimensions-"
"Selene, why must you lie?" My head whipped over to him with dreadful eyes. He shot me a quick smile, "Don't worry, sweets, I'm not saying you stumbled in them-just saying there are more than two dimensions in certain texts. Trust me I wo-"
"Anyways!" Selene shot the man a glare and he glared back. Where have I seen him before? I kept my eyes locked on him as I searched my mind. He was attractive, I remember something about that. I was so lost in trying to figure it out. Selene stopped talking and studied me, the man did the same.
His lips quirked up. "Do you recognize me Violet?" he asked. He was slightly amused. He knew my name, then again so did Selene when she first met me.
I furrowed my brows. His smile grew wider, eyes twinkling with a slightly mischievous glint.
"Plut-" Selene started but Pluto raised his hand to stop her. "I thought you didn't want people to know!" Selene spoke out.
Did my baby still have a chance? A wave of hope washed over me.

He smirked at her and turned his attention back to me. "I'll give a hint, sweets. I've met with Derek, or Benlyam, many times. You and I have talked before..." he trailed.
My lips parted as I blinked at him. Then it all hit me.
"King?" I asked and he beamed at me.
"Smart," he praised and I looked at him confused.
"You're- you're a God?" I whispered, shocked.
He shrugged. "Yes. An immortal, slightly lonely King. A Deity," he nodded.
"Remember when I said another God talked to Derek?" I nodded and she smiled.
"Twas I," the King waved his hand.
I nodded. "I- I mean no disrespect Sire, but what are you the God of? I, um, I don't know what Pluto matches to..." He mentioned I wasn't dead but what role did he play
in all this.
"I have many names, but my Greek epithet would be Hades," my mouth dropped open. I felt my face pale. "You have nothing to fear, sweets. I'm not here to hurt you or ruin your life."
"You're the Devil?" I whispered and he shrugged, nodding. I swallowed and nodded, subconsciously holding my stomach tighter, he saw that.
"Aw. You're more protective of your baby than Benlyam. I guess that's expected though," he shrugged. I blinked and Selene called my attention back to her.
"As I was saying," she stood up straighter and a chair appeared out of nowhere and she sat down. "You aren't in liminality and your baby is fine, however, Sage took quite the beating. She was getting most of the harm and although some got caught up to you, she tried to make sure you didn't get hurt." I frowned and bit my lip, "Instinctively, she knew to protect you and your kin, and that's what she did..."
Tears stung at my eyes.
"What..." I took a breath, "what are you saying?" I dreadfully asked.
"Well, Sage is in a coma-like state." I grimaced as a so built up in my throat. Don't cry. Don't cry. "She might not fully recover, but the problem is, a medical condition that I can't explain to you is being trumped with Sage's presence, so without her..." she frowned and I copied her look.
"What medical condition? Nothing is wrong..." I denied. Why didn't she ever tell me anything?
"The Moriai advised not- forbidden me, in fact."
I heard the King scoff. "What is your deal, Selene? You call me and Hermes our Roman cognomens, but 'the Moriai'? Just say the fucking Fates- or the Parcae- pick one!" he breathed out, agitated.
Selene glared at him, just then did I notice a crown on her head it had rocks encrusted in the band. Moon rocks...
"You're more than welcomed to leave!" she said as she turned back to me. "Sorry, but Benlyam and Reseda will explain it, I'm not allowed."
I widened my eyes in disbelief and rage. "You're a Goddess! You can do anything! I don't want to see Derek!"
Pluto chuckled, "I like her!"
Selene sighed out, she really didn't like him.
"Vi-"
"Uh-no. He's hurt me repeatedly and when we finally tried to move on he tried to get rid of me, sent me to Chris like he said, and dug into me while he screwed me!" I
retaliated.
"My child, Benlyam never sent you to Christopher, he never hurt you while you were with Christopher. He'll explain." She nodded her head.
"Don't mean to intervene because- fantastic job Selene!" Pluto muttered sarcastically, "But Violet, he didn't send Chris to you, I promise you that," he nodded at me.
I frowned and turned back to Selene, "Well- he still hurt me! I have the marks on my hips, I don't care what he has to say! I don't want to see Derek! I will raise my baby by myself, I don't want him!" My stomach twinged with a sting of pain at my words.
"Violet, call him Benlyam. We all know he despises his first name and he lets you call him it because he wants to be equal with you," she rationed with me.
Equal? Since when!
"I don't care!" I declared like a brat. "I won't see him!"
"Listen dear one, I'm not saying forgive him, not even a second chance, just talk to him!" Selene pleaded and I scoffed. She said the same thing last time!
"You know, that is my pet peeve with you Selene," Pluto started, "you're so conceited and dimwitted when it comes to the morals. You have no care for how things will turn out! You just want everyone to be happy mates because they're your creations that you paired! Get over yourself!" Pluto rolled his eyes at her and crossed his arms. A dark power was slowly emitting from him.
"Debatable." That was the only thing Selene said. "I'll tell you what Violet, if you talk things out with Benlyam and still want to leave, I'll let you. I know people and I can set you up in a place so you can live your life."
My heart got so hurt at that, but my mind was happy. I instantly nodded.
"You have to talk to him Violet! And since you are mates and I don't want you both dying, I will require weekly visits so he can see his baby and you!" I went to instantly nod but thought for a second.
What if this was a lie? What if my baby isn't okay and she's lying so I would talk to him?
"Wait-" I looked over at Pluto, "um, Sire? If you're like God of the Underworld, can't you tell if someone is dead?" I asked, it sounded weird but I didn't care.
He smirked, "you could say that. What would you like for me to do?"
"Can you see if my baby is alive? Please?" I was dreading him denying me. But he nodded.
He walked over to me. Selene widened her eyes in anger.
"What are you doing? You can't say anything! The Moriai advised against it!" Selene raged at him.
He looked down at her. "Does it look like I give a shit? Who let you fucking help her? You aren't doing anything!" he growled at her.
"You don't know what you're doing!" Selene yelled.
He glared down at her as he emitted more of the dark aura. "Stand down Selene, I won't hesitate to lock you Tartarus for a week. I don't need your damn opinion!" He spoke with sheer authority, darkly dangerous.
Selene swallowed and looked away before back at him. "Fine. But don't you dare tell her about the medical condition. You and I both know it's not our place to say."
Pluto kneeled down in front of me and focused for a second but then a perplexed expression crossed his features. "Violet, can you move your hands?" he asked softly and I untucked them.
He still looked confused.
... Was everything okay?...
He glanced at me.
"It's okay. I'm just picking up something and I can't quite..." he moved closer to me. "Do you mind?" he checked as he pointed to my stomach.
I bit my lip, hesitating. I nodded. He placed his hands on my stomach and closed his eyes, feeling around gently, making sure he didn't hurt me. I didn't miss the frown
on his lips but he quickly covered it. He pulled back and stood up, nodding at me.
"You're good!" Pluto declared. He glared at Selene and shook his head, disgusted. "You're fucking cruel. And you have the audacity to say I'm atrocious." Pluto
muttered.
"Alright!" Selene clapped her hands. "I need you to go back, you're just sleeping right now, but we've held you for too long. Sage is very weak right now, so please keep that in mind. Hopefully you know what to do," she gave a warm smile, "and during everything please don't think your mating was a mistake. We all know the Regional Alphas are sinful, their mates are their virtues-specifically crafted!"
Before I could ask, she bid me farewell, along with the King. I walked back over to the bed and my body automatically drifted to my sleeping form.
...But why did the King frown?...
